Oswego is finalizing designs for a $1.5 million street makeover in the city's downtown district.
Three blocks along State Route 104, a major highway that cuts through downtown, will get new enhanced crosswalks, curbs with ramps and audible pedestrian signals at crosswalks. The funding will also pay for new in-ground flower beds, benches and trash cans.
Mark Budosh, a senior managing engineer with Barton & Loguidice, designed the plan.
"Really the main purpose of the project is to increase pedestrian safety along the corridor and enhance the pedestrian experience,” Budosh said.
The funding for the project is coming from the $10 million Oswego won from New York state's Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
The city initially looked at completing work along the entire 3.5-mile stretch of Route 104 that runs through Oswego, but this project will only cover less than a mile.
Construction is expected to begin this fall.
