Performance Hall Will Allow Texting, Tweeting

RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:

And now for our last word in business: resistance is futile. Officials overseeing a new performance hall being built near Seattle had to decide on a mobile phone policy. While theaters generally remind patrons to turn off their devices, and some even threaten to kick out people, the New York Times reports that this new theater in Bellevue, Washington will encourage smartphone use; make it easy, in fact, with a special antennae that boosts the cell signal. While they're asked not to disrupt the show, patrons will be allowed to tweak and peck. The theater's executive director says he wants to attract younger audiences, and that means there's no use forbidding the technology.

And that's the business news on MORNING EDITION from NPR News. I'm Renee Montagne.
