Oswego, NY – A Utica college will soon offer a two-year degree program to train sign language interpreters to work in school districts. Mohawk Valley Community College and the Resource Center for Independent Living recently received a three-year $260,000 grant from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf to establish the program. Pattina Keniston is a site coordinator for the Interpreter Education Training Program. She told WRVO's Skye Rohde she hopes the new program will raise the standards for sign language interpreters working in local public schools.
