This week: Nutrition, senior emergencies, pain control and opioid abuse

Children, students, adults, families and professionals can find helpful nutritional information on the U.S. Department of Agriculture website, says Maureen Franklin, a registered dietitian nutritionist at Upstate's Joslin Diabetes Center.

She explains some of her favorite features of the free website, including tools for eating healthily on a budget, sample menus and simple recipes. The site provides nutritional information for thousands of foods and allows users to track what they eat and how much exercise they do, features that are offered on some cellphone apps that cost money.

Franklin also points out the website's many nutrition-themed games, the "My Plate Tips" section and the advice about what foods are in season.

Also on this week's show: pain control and reversing the opioid epidemic, plus medical emergencies that affect seniors.

Tune in this Sunday, December 11 at 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. for "HealthLink on Air" on WRVO.
