Horshack Move Banned At British School

LYNN NEARY, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Lynn Neary.

It's thumbs up, not hands raised, at a school in the U.K. It's banned the tradition of waving your arm in the air when you know the answer to a question, because that practice can be so distracting. Teachers say the new method has a calming effect and makes it easier not to overlook students who don't want to draw attention to themselves. Some parents say the new rule is daft and makes their kids look like the Fonz from "Happy Days." It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
