Governor Andrew Cuomo says he will soon be hitting the campaign trail... for other candidates. While the governor is not up for reelection himself until 2016, at a cabinet meeting Monday in Albany, Cuomo said that with this year's election just over two weeks away, endorsements and campaign events to get out the vote matter."Endorsements are relevant, and activities that stimulate the vote are relevant. So I will be doing more endorsements within the state also -- congressional endorsements, legislative endorsements," the governor said.
Cuomo did not say who he will be endorsing, and there's no word whether he will campaign for any candidates in central or northern New York. The governor also did not answer a question from a reporter about specifically whether or not he would endorse any state Senate candidates. The New York Senate is currently controlled by Republicans, with whom Cuomo, a Democrat, has had a good working relationship. But it's a slim majority that is at stake this election
Last week, Cuomo did say he plans to travel to swing states to campaign for President Barack Obama. Today the governor said the details have not been worked out yet, and he's waiting for directions from Obama's campaign
Cuomo also didn't back off from his endorsement last week of a Republican state senator who cast what he called the courageous and critical vote to legalize gay marriage in the state.
