Stephanie Miner hopes for more infrastructure funds for central New York

Syracuse’s mayor hopes her appointment to a state infrastructure commission will mean more funding for central New York.

Last week Governor Andrew Cuomo named Mayor Stephanie Miner as part of the "New York Works Task Force".

Miner says her appointment signals central New York may be in for more money for road projects.

"The city has major infrastructure needs. Onondaga County has major infrastructure needs. So I’m very hopeful and I believe that there will be money coming forward from the state to help us with that. And my role is to make sure we do that in a sustained way, that we plan it, and it makes sense for the entire state," Miner said.

Miner pointed to the future of the aging Interstate 81 as a looming project.

The task force will help identify infrastructure projects and give out state money, which Cuomo says will create jobs.

Buffalo mayor Byron Brown is also part of the task force.
