Winter storm warnings remain in effect for most of central and northern New York through Monday as a large winter storm moves through the region, with storm totals of a foot of snow or more expected in some spots by Monday evening.
Winter storm warnings are in effect for Onondaga, Oneida, Oswego, Lewis, Madison, Chenango, Cayuga, Cortland and Tompkins counties through Monday. Jefferson County is under a winter weather advisory until Monday evening. According to the National Weather Service, snow will pick up intensity Sunday night and continue through the day Monday.
How much snow will fall?
Snow will continue through the day Monday, and it will be heavy at times across central New York. By the time the snow winds down late Monday, an additional 3-6" could fall across the area, in addition to what has already fallen.
Travel impacts
Roads are messy and snow covered acorss most of the region. Onondaga, Oneida and Cayuga counties have issued travel advisories and officials there urge no unnecessary travel. The state Department of Transportation has already reduced speed limits on I-81from Syracuse to the Pennsylvania border to 45 mph. Most schools have decided to close or delay because of weather conditions.
