20 artists will vie for the top prizes at the 4th Annual CLAYTON Plein Air Artists Competition & Art Auction
The 2021 slate of competitors is as follows; Rose Brenner, Bedford IN, Jan Byington (2020 2nd prize winner) Clayton, NY, Jim Henley, Dexter, NY, Cheryl Simeone, Three Mile Bay, NY, Catherine Whitehead, Glen Gardner, NJ, Jerry Merrill, Rodman, NY, Judy Soprano, Livonia, NY, Barbara Jablonski, Pittsford, NY, Paul Allen Taylor, Rochester, NY, Lee Hanford (2020 1st prize winner), Fair Haven, NY, Donna Glahn, Hammond, NY & Mountain Top, PA, Lisa Wagner, Wellesley Island, NY, Laura Rock-Kopczak, Clayton, NY & Saugerties, NY, Kim Gates-Flick, Howard, PA, Teresa Eckerman-Pheil, Ossining, NY, William Christopherson, Watertown, NY, Christine Tisa, Clayton, NY, Mary Mitchell, Alexandria Bay, NY, Thomas Contino, Henderson, NY, Stephen Yaussi, Henderson, NY. The competition begins Wednesday, August 18 at 4 PM and ends Saturday, August 21 at 2 PM. LOOK for the “Plein Air Art Spot” signs and watch artists work from their easels at various unique locations in the 1000 Islands. Painting boundaries are all of the Riverside and rural areas from Tibbetts Point Lighthouse at Cape Vincent to Kring Point State Park, including the Villages of Clayton, Depauville, LaFargeville, and Alexandria Bay; all of the Jefferson County St. Lawrence River islands to the US-Canadian International Boundary. The entirety of historic Grindstone Island is included within painting limits on Friday, August 20th. All artworks are for sale! Bid on artworks as they are being created on location. A portion of proceeds to benefit Depauville Free Library and Hawn Memorial Library, Clayton, NY. The public is invited to the closing activities which begin at 2 pm at River Muse Art Gallery & Studio with the deadline for Art to be judged. Plein Air 2021 Judge Kim Hoerster of Georgetown, TX will choose; 1st Place: $400.00, 2nd Place: $300.00, 3rd Place $200.00, Honorable Mention $100.00 and the public will choose the People’s Choice Award; $50.00.

The awards ceremony shall commence at 3 pm. Should a delay in judging occur, the deadline for bidding will be extended. Bids for all artworks will close at 4 pm unless otherwise extended. Winning bidders will be notified, and they can pick up their artwork until closing at 7 pm. Any artworks not sold can be purchased at opening bid price until 5 pm. Tommy Gunn Band will perform for the public closing reception from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Light fare and refreshments will be served.
