This week: Critical care neurosurgery, bias in teaching, sports injuries

The neurointensive care unit treats patients with complicated conditions, including head injuries and strokes.

In this episode of “HealthLink on Air,” Dr. Timothy Beutler describes what goes on in the neurointensive care unit -- and how he counsels families that while many patients will see their condition improve, change can be slow. He also describes his background in the relatively new field of neurocritical care and how it helps in the coordination of treatment, which often involves many different specialists.

Also on the show, orthopedic surgeon Zachary Vredenburgh addresses common sports injuries. And, pediatrician and bioethicist Amy Caruso Brown shares her research on bias in teaching. Listen this Sunday, October 4 at 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. for more.
