The lawn signs started popping up a few weeks ago, but Dan Maffei didn't officially launch his campaign for Congress until this weekend.
In fact, Maffei said, the signs are from his previous campaigns. He hasn't printed the new ones yet.
Maffei met with several dozen supporters at his newly opened campaign headquarters on East Washington Street in downtown Syracuse Saturday afternoon.
The democrat from Dewitt is trying to reclaim a seat he lost two years ago to Ann Marie Buerkle (R-Onondaga Hill) after serving just one term.
The two are headed for a rematch in a slightly different district. New York's 25th Congressional District will become the 24th and now includes all of Onondaga, Wayne and Cayuga counties as well as the western half of Oswego County.
For Maffei, the biggest issue this election is no surprise.
"It’s all about the economy," he said Saturday. "We’ve got to get jobs going again in central New York and we can do it. We’ve got to be more positive than we’re being because we do have so much potential. We’ve got the seeds here, we just got to make sure they grow."
Green Party candidate Ursula Rozum is also running for the congressional seat.
