Central New York – Cold weather means an increased risk of frostbite.
Public health officials all across upstate New York are asking citizens to be extra vigilant about wearing proper outdoor clothing.
Here are some things you can do to prevent frostbite:
- Wear many loose layers of warm clothing. Do not wear tight clothes that can cut off cirulation.
- Keep hands and feet covered at all times when outside. Wear heavy socks and boots that cover above the ankle. Wear gloves or mittens or a combination of both.
- Keep head, ears, and neck covered. Always wear a hat, scarf, or ski mask when spending extended amounts of time outdoors.
- State police also suggest keeping warm clothes, mittens, scarves, and socks in your car along with blankets, water, and non-perishable, high-calorie food.
