The Carl A. Rubino Hamilton at The Other Side Lecture series presents a talk by Mackenzie Cooley, Associate Professor of History and Director of Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Dr. Francisco Hernandez was the physician sent by Spain in 1570 to lead the first explicitly scientific expedition in the Americas. Following his trail into Mexico, Professor Cooley uncovered how indigenous knowledge and European ambition collided in the search for cures. This talk invites you to see the early Americas as a living laboratory where the dream of universal remedies was born. Talk is free to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted.
