National AIDS Memorial Quilt and Flag in the Map Exhibit at SUNY Oneonta
National AIDS Memorial Quilt and Flag in the Map Exhibit at SUNY Oneonta
A portion of the National AIDS Memorial Quilt will be open to the SUNY Oneonta community as well as the greater Oneonta community from March 21-23, 2025, for open viewing. On Saturday, March 22nd at 5:00 PM, we will also hold a reception program that includes a reading of the 96 names of the people honored on the panels and testimony by local community members. Community organizations will be in attendance for the duration of the event, including AIDS/HIV history, education and prevention materials, harm reduction, PrEP information, and community resources.
The event will also include a special exhibit of the Gilbert Baker Foundation's Flag in the Map project. Flag in the Map, a collaboration between the Gilbert Baker Foundation and ReportOUT, is a growing collection of photographs and stories that reaffirms the universal power of the Rainbow Flag to inspire LGBTQ+ people – especially in countries where their everyday existence is threatened.
The Women's and Gender Studies Department is grateful to the Otsego Pride Alliance (OPA) and WGS student Kerri Lincoln for their contributions to making this exhibit possible on our campus.
