The National Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum in Oneonta Will Close

By Ryan Morden

Oswego, NY – The National Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum in Oneonta will close due to financial struggles.

Jonathan Ullman, president and chief operating officer of the museum, said the hall will still exist but with a decentralized approach to celebrating the history of soccer.

"We would focus more on online programing, event based outreach and traveling exhibition as a way of reaching people, where ever they may be," said Ullman.

Ullman said there are also plans to develop permanent exhibits that would be on display in multiple venues all over the country.

Dick Miller, Mayor of Oneonta, said the shutting down of the museum would not hurt the community economically because it did not create many jobs or draw many tourists to the area.
