Big Y Supermarket To Phase Out Self-Checkout Lanes

STEVE INSKEEP, Host:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep.

Legend says railroad worker John Henry hammered faster than a steam drill but died from the effort. Computers have outplayed chess masters. But now we can report a triumph for the human spirit. So now cashiers will return, helping people baffled by bar codes, coupons and ways to pay. It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
