NPR's business news starts with Wal-Mart's trouble in China. Wal-Mart's top man in China has stepped down. Ed Chan was president and chief executive of Wal-Mart China for the last five years. He oversaw the retailer's rapid expansion in the Chinese market. Wal-Mart says his resignation, and the departure of another executive in China, for personal reasons, are not related to a food labeling scandal the company is facing right now.

Last week, officials in the southwest metropolis of Chongqing forced Wal-Mart to shut down all 13 of its stores in that city as punishment for mislabeling pork as organic. More than 25 people have been detained in connection with the pork labeling incident. Today's announcement also comes after two other high-level resignations from Wal-Mart's China team.
