London Cash Machine Has Cockney Language Option

RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne.

Some moolah for your skyrocket? At one cash machine in East London you'll have to know a bit of cockney to put money in your pocket. The cockney dialect employs rhyming slang that changes a common word into a rhyming phrase. When customers choose the cockney option at the cash machine, it asks for their Huckleberry Finn - or PIN. Or see your balance on the Charlie Sheen - or screen. Or how about a receipt with your sausage and mash - or cash. It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
