Organ Concert with Abel Searor
Organ Concert with Abel Searor
Well-Known Organist to Perform Concert Featuring Vintage Church Organ
Syracuse organist Abel Searor will be in concert at First United Church of Fulton on Sunday, June 22, at 2 p.m. He will perform on the church’s 1924 Austin Opus 1239 organ, built by the Austin Organ Co. of Hartford, Connecticut.
Searor, originally from Oswego, is on the faculty of Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music and its Department of Drama; he is also the Director of Worship at DeWitt Community Church. He has been an organist and pianist for the Syracuse Chorale, SU Oratorio Society, the Syracuse Orchestra, and Syracuse University Singers. His music-director credits include numerous professional and amateur theater companies, including Redhouse Arts Center, Syracuse Stage, SU Drama, Baldwinsville Theater Guild, Rarely Done Productions, and CNY Playhouse. In the past, he was the organist at Hannibal Community Church and West Baptist Church in Oswego.
The 1924 organ—rebuilt in 1974—was originally a 3 manual, 19 rank instrument. With the uniting of the Baptist Church of Fulton and First Presbyterian Church of Fulton, the ranks were increased to 25 with the addition of ranks from the Baptist organ.
