Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers in Ithaca
Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers in Ithaca
Night Eagle Productions welcomes Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers, who bring their dynamic, traditional Celtic music to downtown Ithaca at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca on Wednesday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m.
Over the years, the "Tannies" have been trailblazers for Scottish music. Their tight harmonies and powerful, inventive arrangements have won them fans even beyond the folk and Celtic music scenes. In 2011, the band was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame, and in 2018 they released their 50th-anniversary album "Orach" on the Compass Records label. Their most recent release, "Solstice," earned high praise even from sources outside the usual folk and traditional music scene.
The most exciting change in recent years has been to the band lineup with the additions of Iain MacGillivray and Alistair McCulloch. MacGillivray plays bagpipes and fiddle, speaks and sings Gaelic fluently, and has performed on high-profile projects including "Outlander." Fiddle player Alistair McCulloch teaches as a senior fiddle specialist at the Royal Conservatoire in Scotland when not on tour with the Tannies. Along with Roy Gullane and Phil Smillie, the Tannahill Weavers remain one of the premier groups on the concert stage today.
Event Details:
- Doors Open: 7 p.m.
