President Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday night stirred up some partisan rancor as he heads into an election year. Some New York representatives were looking to strike a different bipartisan tone.
Central New York Rep. Anthony Brindisi (D-Utica) is a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus and says the group was unified at last night’s address.
"We're trying to show some bipartisanship tonight by wearing a mixture of red and blue which is purple and also sitting together during the State of the Union to show that we can cross the aisle and want to work together,” Brindisi said.
Two other members of the Problem Solvers Caucus, upstate Reps. Tom Reed (R-Corning) and John Katko (R-Camillus) were also sporting the bipartisan idea on the floor.
"Our country needs it,” Katko said. “I mean people are sick of the divisiveness on both sides."
That divisiveness is still on display in Washington. Wednesday, President Trump is likely to be acquitted in his Senate impeachment trial.
