Oswego, NY – The release of a state commission report on how to ease New York's property tax burden has been delayed.
The Commission on Property Tax Relief was scheduled to release their recommendations on Thursday, but has postponed the release until June 3rd.
Chairman of the commission, Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, blames the postponement on several factors including ongoing budget negotiations, the busy schedule of Governor Paterson and the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.
The commission is expected to recommend a property tax cap, limiting tax hikes to 3% per year.
Meanwhile a group of progressive democrats is already proposing an alternative to a tax cap; a circuit breaker that would be financed by increasing taxes on the rich.
WRVO's Jason Smith spoke with Ron Deutsch, Executive Director of New Yorker's for Fiscal Fairness one of the groups supporting the circuit breaker plan.
