New York Delegate Discusses Her Early Support for Obama

By Chris Ulanowski

Syracuse, NY – Lisa Daly has been interested in politics for a long time, but it wasn't until Barack Obama made his speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention that Daly felt excitement about the up-and-coming candidate. Daly is a New York delegate at the Democratic National Convention.

Daly grew up in Syracuse and attended Syracuse University. She has a doctorate in history and works as an Internet consultant. In 2006, she upped her political involvement by working with the campaign of New York Representative Dan Maffei.

Obama's speech at the 2004 convention struck a positive tone that Daly was unaccustomed to hearing. She said she was a bit "worn out" of the negativity of politics.

"On any number of issues I care about, I thought not only that [Obama] was in line with what I thought was the right path, but he did so in a way that I thought was respectful and civil and that reached out to other people in a way that I was looking for," Daly said.

"It's not just his ability to motivate other people, but his nuanced grasp of other issues and his ability to work with other people," she added.

This is Daly's first time attending a national convention.
