NY's Plan for Race to the Top

By Jasmyn Belcher

Oswego, NY – Today marks the deadline for school districts and charter schools to sign on to the state's Race to the Top plan. Race to the Top is a federal grant open to state education departments.

The goal of the funding is to improve education outcomes for all students and to close achievement gaps. As WRVO's Jasmyn Belcher reports, state lawmakers, teachers groups and education departments are working to make sure New York gets its fair shot at a potential $700 million.

Recent cuts to federal funding are challenging our mission to serve central and upstate New York with trusted journalism, vital local coverage, and the diverse programming that informs and connects our communities. This is the moment to join our community of supporters and help keep journalists on the ground, asking hard questions that matter to our region.

Stand with public media and make your gift today—not just for yourself, but for all who depend on WRVO as a trusted resource and civic cornerstone in central and upstate New York.
