Governor Paterson Comments on Rumors

By Karen DeWitt

Albany, NY – Governor David Paterson denied rumors that a scandalous news story on his personal life is about to break, or that he'd be resigning from office. Paterson says the only way he is leaving is "in a box."

The story was to appear in the New York Times, and addressing the media for the first time since rumors began circulating, Paterson says there's no truth to any of the tales about misconduct in his personal life.

The governor also lashed out at the Times, which is doing a profile piece on him. Paterson thinks it is appalling that the newspaper did nothing to quell the rumors.

He says his family has been supportive, telling him not to give up. The governor says he is still running for election and states, "The only way I'm not going to be governor next year is at the ballot box, and the only way that I'll be leaving office before is in a box."

Paterson would not speculate on who might be behind the persistent reports of personal transgression, saying he did not want to start any more rumors.
