Price Chopper to Buy 6 North Country Stores

By Ryan Morden

Oswego, NY – The super market chain Price Chopper will buy 6 P&C grocery stores from Tops markets.

Five P&C grocery stores are in northern New York State. These stores are located in Canton, Gouverneur, Massena, Potsdam and West Carthage. The 6th store is located in Lincoln, New Hampsire.

Price Chopper CEO Neil Golub says he expects the company to take over the stores in early April.

Tops bought all 79 P&C grocery stores after Penn Traffic filed for bankruptcy this past November.

Officials with Tops have said the grocer was looking to sell the 6 stores because they're too far away from Tops's base in Buffalo.
