Syracuse Airport Facing Security Upgrade Delays

By Mike Benjamin

Oswego, NY – A Syracuse Common Council debate over labor agreements could delay security upgrades at Hancock Airport.

The Common Council approved a security upgrade to the airport last March. Now, the Council is considering adding a project labor agreement, or PLA.

The agreement would spell out terms of work, and could require the use of union workers.

Lance Denno is a Councilor-at-Large for the city of Syracuse. He said if the Council decides it wants to use a PLA, it could delay the project even further because there would have to be a study to determine if any money would be saved.

"There is no guarantee that if we do a PLA study, that the study will find that we're going to save any funds in the project," said Denno.

Denno said the decision to use a PLA should have been made a year ago when the Council approved the security upgrade.

According to Denno, they should just move ahead with the project.
