SUNY Oswego Students and Professors to McHugh: Repeal Don't Ask/Don't Tell

By Ryan Morden

Oswego, NY – U.S. Army Secretary John McHugh is scheduled to visit SUNY Oswego next month to speak to graduating students.

Some professors and students want to use his visit to urge the repeal of the policy known as "don't ask don't tell".

"Don't ask don't tell" is the law that prohibits gays and lesbians from serving openly in the army.

Charles Spector is a professor with the school of business. Spector, along with other professors and students want to meet with McHugh to voice their disapproval of the policy.

"We believe this policy is discriminatory," said Spector. "We believe that everybody who's qualified, physically and mentally qualified, should be given the opportunity to serve."

The policy of United University Professions, the union that represents SUNY employees, is that the law is discriminatory.
