Iraq Study Report Suggests Gradual Drawdown

MADELEINE BRAND, host:

We return now to our top story of the day, the release of the report by the Iraq study group. Families with loved ones currently serving in the U.S. military are sure to be interested in one of the key recommendations of the panel. It offers the hope of a draw down of U.S. combat forces in Iraq. Here is the study group's co-chair, former democratic congressman Lee Hamilton.

Mr. LEE HAMILTON (Iraq Study Group): By the first quarter of 2008 subject, of course, to unexpected developments on the ground, all U.S. combat brigades not necessary for force protection could be out of Iraq.

BRAND: That's former representative Lee Hamilton of the Iraq Study group. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
