Oswego Opera Theater presents 'Trial by Jury' plus 'Cox and Box'
Two comic operas will be presented.
"Trial by Jury" is a delightfully ludicrous one-act opera dealing with a lawsuit over a broken engagement. Edwin, the defendant, has fallen in love with another woman and has jilted his fiancé Angelina, who sues him for “breach of promise of marriage.” The ensuing legal battle will have you in stitches as it highlights the absurdities of romantic entanglements and the twists and turns of the judicial process.
"Cox and Box," another one-act comic opera, is about a chance meeting of two men who discover they were fated to marry the same undesirable woman; Penelope Ann. Mr. Box was able to avoid this fate by faking his own suicide. Mr. Cox, on the other hand, threatens to expose Mr. Box’s ruse to avoid marrying Penelope Ann himself. There is much humor as the story unfolds. The opera satirizes class and societal norms, ultimately resulting in an unexpected conclusion.
