Upstate's HealthLink on Air - August 23, 2026

Read the full episode transcript on the Upstate Medical University website.

At least three human avian flu cases have been reported since 2024 among people in the United States who own backyard chickens. On this week's "HealthLink on Air,” Dr. Elizabeth Asiago-Reddy discusses ways to protect yourself and your flock, and why bird flu is such a concern. She is Upstate’s chief of infectious disease.

Also on the show, Dr. Joseph Strayhorn, a psychiatrist, explains the various skills one needs in order to be mentally healthy, which are outlined in a new textbook he co-authored about psychoeducation. Strayhorn is a clinical assistant professor in Upstate’s department of psychiatry. He also directs the nonprofit Organization for Psychoeducational Tutoring.

Listen to Healthlink on Air every Sunday at 6 a.m. on WRVO.
