The Hitch-Hiker: Join us for our next 'Tuned to Yesterday' movie event in Auburn

Join us for a special presentation tying the golden age of radio to the silver screen, this time at the Auburn Public Theater. "Tuned to Yesterday" is at the movies again with "The Hitch-Hiker." The 1953 picture, regarded as the first American film-noir directed by a woman, follows two fishing buddies who pick up a mysterious hitchhiker during a trip to Mexico. Inspired by the crime spree of psychopathic murderer Billy Cook, the film is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. The event is free and open to the public and co-sponsored by the Auburn Citizen.

Prior to the film, "Tuned to Yesterday" host and producer Mark Lavonier will take the audience on a brief tour of director Ida Lupino's radio work. Known during the 1940s as a popular actress, she was considered by many to be a fearless pioneer in entertainment, paving the way for women in the industry by overcoming the challenges her male colleagues had established. Lupino's determination, strong work ethic and versitile talent saw her acing and directing goals realized -- all the while wowing audiences and inspiring other women in Hollywood.

A reception follows the film with food and beverage provided by Mesa Grande Taqueria and Billsboro Winery.
