Perez Williams on her primary challenge: This is bigger than me

The New York State Board of Elections ruled Thursday that congressional candidate Juanita Perez Williams has enough petition signatures to appear on the June primary ballot. That clears the way for a primary for the Democratic nomination in the 24th Congressional District between Perez Williams and Dana Balter, who was chosen by Democrats in Onondaga, Cayuga and Oswego counties.

Sitting down for her first extended broadcast interview since entering the race, Perez Williams defended her decision to enter the race. Speaking with Grant Reeher for this week's episode of the Campbell Conversations, Perez Williams said she supported Balter, donated to her campaign, and gathered signatures for her.

"But what I saw really was very little traction and what I also got concerned about was that we weren't serious about mounting a real challenge against John Katko," she said.

Hear a portion of the interview below. The full interview will air on WRVO Saturday, May 5 at 6:30 a.m. and Sunday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. The full interview will also be available online.
