Snow Scarcity at Nearby Ski Areas

Song Mountain Ski Resort owner Peter Harris predicts people will be skiing by Christmas.

"Everybody’s chomping at the bit, this time of year people are sick of golfing, they want to go skiing."

Peter says even without the natural snow, they just need a few days of sustained cold to cover the trails with man-made flakes.  He says they can definitely catch up on business.

"I’m certainly optimistic, it’s my 26th year in the business. Some winters start really early and end with a whimper, and other years start late and end with a bang."

At Toggenburg Mountain, manager Cyndy Sisto says they are poised for lots of snow-making, and not just for business’ sake, but to benefit Fabius-Pompey outreach’s food, clothing, and gift drive.

"It’s December 24th its free lift tickets for a donation for the outreach, they just called me this morning and they’re a little concerned that you know last year we filled their shelves and it was a big help and we’re just hoping we can get something down so they can take advantage of that donation day."

Both area resorts are promising Christmas will be white on the slopes if not our backyards.
