The city of Oswego Police Department has arrested two men in connection with the heroin overdoses that occurred in the early Saturday morning hours in Oswego.
Brian Tumolo, 21, of Manorville, N.Y., has been charged with selling heroin to two people, who later were taken to Oswego Hospital and treated for suspected heroin overdoses. Tumolo was arrested early Saturday morning.
One of the individuals Tumolo is alleged to have sold the heroin to is Gabriel Gonzalez, 22, of Bridgeport, Conn. Gonzalez was arrested Monday evening and also charged with selling heroin.
Oswego Police say that Gonzalez allegedly sold heroin that he had received from Tumolo to the SUNY Oswego student who ultimately died from a heroin overdose on the SUNY Oswego campus. Police say that Gonzalez sold the heroin on Friday at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Oswego Police also say they seized 40 bags of heroin from Tumolo that he allegedly possessed with the intent to sell.
Tumolo was arraigned and is being held at the Oswego County Correctional Facility. Gonzalez is currently being held pending his arraignment.
The other individual who overdosed and was hospitalized, and whom has not been named by Oswego Police, was also released from Oswego Hospital.
Tumolo is not a student at SUNY Oswego. Gonzalez and the other overdose victim who was hospitalized are students at SUNY Oswego, according to police.
According to Oswego Police Capt. Charles Tonkin, Tumolo came to Oswego to participate in the Bridge Street Run with friends who are students at SUNY Oswego.
Tonkin said that police received a call to report an overdose at 56 West Bridge Street in the early morning hours of Saturday. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered there was a second person also suffering from an apparent overdose. The person who called police was not one of the alleged overdose victims, Tonkin said.
Tonkin said the Oswego Police Department does not anticipate more arrests will be made in this case, but they continue to look for any links the case may have to other instances of drug use in the Oswego area.
"At this point, we believe this case is pretty close to being wrapped up. We just want to talk to whoever might have any information that can assist us with minor details," said Tonkin.
