Onondaga County holds its first COVID-19 booster shot clinic Wednesday. The clinic at the Oncenter in Syracuse will be open for people who have already received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine, and are at a higher risk of becoming seriously ill from the virus. Anyone over 65 is also eligible, as are individuals who work in jobs that put them at a high risk of exposure to COVID-19.

Wednesday's clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said the county-run clinic isn’t the only place to go to get a booster shot.

“You can go to your doctors. You can go to drug stores,” said McMahon. “Remember, at the beginning of this process, drug stores didn’t have supply and capacity of the vaccine. What’s changed now is supply isn’t an issue anymore and all these different points of distribution are there for people to get their boosters. So please do that.”

Another county-run clinic is set for Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The vaccinations are free, but people must pre-register for the county-run clinic. Those who have received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines aren’t eligible for booster shots yet.

There are a number of other places to go to get a COVID-19 booster shot. New York state is giving COVID boosters at the State Fairgrounds near Syracuse. Oswego County holds a vaccination clinic each Wednesday afternoon, Oneida County is scheduling appointments for booster shots, and Jefferson County residents can schedule a booster shot here.

Appointments for booster shots are also available at places like Kinney Drugs, Walgreens, Price Chopper, and Wegmans.
