Concerns about the novel coronavirus have caused a run on a number of items at supermarkets and other stores around the country, particularly cleaning products; things like hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes.

At Wegmans, spokesperson Deana Percassi says that availability of hand sanitizer right now is limited. She says the supermarket company continues to get shipments and is moving product to its stores as soon as it arrives.

Percassi says that Wegmans is working closely with suppliers and is expanding its product assortment to increase the availability of hand sanitizer. But she says the stores are also limiting the purchase of hand sanitizer right now to three items per order.

Wegmans is also seeing higher sales on items like toilet paper and some food items, especially those with a longer shelf life.

At Tops Markets, spokesperson Kathleen Sautter says they are also seeing higher sales of hand sanitizers, and on Friday, she said that Tops will be limiting hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes to three per customer to allow as much available inventory for customers as possible.
