Join the SUNY Oswego Department of Cinema and Screen Studies for a 16mm film screening and discussion with filmmaker Michael A. Morris! This is an exciting opportunity for all film enthusiasts to learn from a working filmmaker.
Michael A. Morris is an artist and educator based in Granville, Ohio. His work responds to the rapid changes in how moving images are created and experienced in the 21st century, affirming the traditional space of experiencing cinema while also exploring the implications of new media. Morris has performed and screened his films and videos at museums, galleries, microcinemas, and film festivals internationally, including Crossroads at The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Media Live at Boulder Museumof Contemporary Art, The International Symposium of Electronic Art in Vancouver, Microscope Gallery, Istanbul International Experimental Film Festival, The Ann Arbor Film Festival, and Artist's Television Access.
He received a Kodak award from Florida Experimental Film and Video Festival for his performance "A Chorus of Black Voids Sings in Rays of Unseeable Light," and his film "BlueMovie" won awards from Southern Colorado Film Festival, Haverhill Film Festival, and Athens International Film and Video Festival and was also included as part of Ann Arbor Film Festival's touring program in 2018, which was screened internationally.

Albert Abonado’s poetry collection "Field Guide for Accidents" is a National Poetry Series selection. He has received fellowships for poetry from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. His work has appeared in Boston Review, Colorado Review, The Laurel Review, The Margins, Triquarterly, Zone 3, and others. He is the Managing Editor for Bare Hill Review and teaches creative writing at SUNY Oswego.

A team from the Upstate Cancer Center will provide practical information on a variety of topics to help those undergoing cancer treatment and recovery best manage and enjoy the holiday season. This session will feature a cooking demonstration of simple, nourishing holiday side dishes and a discussion on coping with cancer during the holidays, including guidance on handling emotional stress and strategies to help patients and caregivers find peace, balance and meaning during the holiday season. The intended audience is individuals in treatment or recovery from cancer and/or their loved ones. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required by calling Upstate Connect at 315-464-8668.

There are many ways pharmacists assist and support patients during prostate cancer treatments. Learn about their role in developing ideal treatment plans and managing side effects, as well as how various medications work to treat cancer. Dr. Burgdorf will also provide resources to help with medication-related financial concerns. This session is provided in support of Upstate’s Men to Men Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Cheri Johnson’s novel Annika Rose won the 2022 Women’s Prose Prize. her work has appeared in Glimmer Train, Pleiades, Puerto del Sol, and more. She has received fellowships from Yaddo, the McKnight Foundation, and the Fine Arts Work Center, among others. Johnson is also the author of a chapbook, a mystery, and two nonfiction series for young readers, and has worked as a freelance editor for several publishing houses.
