Onondaga County officials said Thursday two more people have died after contracting COVID-19. County Executive Ryan McMahon said during his briefing Thursday that one person was a woman in her late 60s with "significant underlying medical issues" died after contracting COVID-19. A few hours later, the county announced a man in his 80s, also with underlying medical issues had also died.

"This is the reality of this disease," McMahon said. "Any of us can catch it and our immune systems battle it in different ways. But for our community's most vulnerable, folks with underlying medical conditions, this is a fight."

The total number of cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday is 301. 29 people are hospitalized, 14 in critical condition. McMahon said 75 people have recovered and have been released from mandatory isolation.

County health officials announced a potential exposure of the virus at an area supermarket after an employee at the market tested positive. Anyone who was at the Tops Market on West Seneca St. in Manlius March 26 from 6 a.m. -1:10 p.m. and March 27 from 6 a.m. – 11 a.m. should be on the lookout of potential symptoms of COVID-19. Officials say most people who had contact with the employee have been notified and the store has been deep cleaned. But anyone who was at the store during those times should watch for symptoms.

"Because of gaps in the investigation, we're not quite sure we got to every contact, so we ask people who were in the store during those times to monitor their symptoms, and if you have flu-like symptoms, contact your doctor," McMahon said.

Meanwhile, Centro reported Thursday that a second employee has tested positive. The employee is a bus driver who last worked on Friday, March 27. Centro officials say the employee drove a Centro bus on the following routes:

Wednesday, March 25, 2020

5:15pm – 7:10pm             262X Fayetteville Manlius & 162 Fayetteville Manlius

Friday, March 27, 2020

4:15pm – 7:40pm             254 Midland Ave & 52 Court St

Anyone who rode a bus on those routes on those days and times should watch for symptoms.
