Community Calendar

In this eight-week series, students will learn the foundational skills for throwing pots on the wheel. They will learn centering, basic throwing techniques, trimming, glazing, and more to begin their journey with clay. While this class is geared toward beginners, students who have some introductory skills that they wish to expand on are welcome. Price includes 25 pounds of clay, access to the clay studio outside of class, and use of community tools and glazes.

In this 6-week series, students will learn the process of applying acrylic in layers to produce depth and richness that translates into representational art. First, they will focus on establishing value mapping in a painting using a monochromatic palette. Then they’ll learn how to use transparent and semi-transparent color glazes of acrylic, allowing the value that has been established underneath to show through.

"Grease" is STILL the word, only now you can join John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in this sing-along version of the original high school musical. One of the biggest films of the '70s, "Grease," contributed to a wave of nostalgia for the '50s. The score included several original songs that were not part of the Broadway production and produced one of the best-selling soundtrack albums of all time. ("I’ve got chills… they’re multiplying…")

It's even more fun to come in costume, so wear your 1950s circle skirts and bobby socks or Greaser jackets! Don't forget to stop by concessions in the lobby for fresh popcorn, and be sure to catch the vintage cartoon screening before the feature film for that authentic, old-fashioned movie theater experience!

Utica University’s free "Films on Thursday" series continues with a screening of the documentary "Little Richard: I Am Everything."

A major architect of rock 'n' roll, Little Richard made music that exploded out of the radio, captivating audiences with his energy and flamboyant presence. Directed by Lisa Cortés, the film uses interviews and incredible archival footage to explore the many and often contradictory sides of Little Richard’s life and music, including his upbringing, sexuality, and religion.

"Little Richard: I Am Everything" was nominated for a Grammy Award for best music film and was a finalist for a Peabody Award in the arts category. Don’t miss this chance to experience the explosive power of Little Richard on the big screen.

Special Exhibit

Controversy is a constant in the realm of comics and video games. Visit the Gannett Gallery for a special exhibition examining these controversies and the communities that thrive regardless.

This year, the Victorian Lady antique shop in Oneida is on a mission to collect and distribute warm winter coats and accessories to help neighbors facing hardship during these difficult times.

“If you would like to help make someone's winter a little warmer, we would be most grateful!” says Ms. Gerri Gray, the shop’s proprietor. “We are holding the coat drive throughout the fall and winter.” She added, “We also plan to host a few food giveaways, so if anyone wishes to donate any canned food (including pet food) and/or other non-perishable items, they can bring them to the shop during our regular business hours or simply leave them on our front porch.”

Donations of new and gently-used coats, scarves, and gloves are being accepted every Monday and Saturday from noon until 5 p.m. and on all other days by appointment only. The shop, which was featured on Lite 98.7, is located at 302 Main Street, Oneida, NY (at the corner of Stone).

This exhibition, on view in Tyler Art Gallery at SUNY Oswego from Jan. 27 through Feb. 26, features artwork by individuals exploring concepts of femininity—whether they identify as women, men, trans, or non-binary.

The goal of the collection is to explore various expressions of femininity and what it means to embrace them. This allows for an intersectional approach to feminism, examining how the connections between race, age, gender dysphoria, and queerness impact people across a spectrum of identities.
